Submetering & Redistribution

EnergyConnect offers submetering and electricity redistribution solutions for facilities with multiple tenants. Our sub-metering & redistribution services help site owners effectively track electricity usage by tenants, as well as create additional revenue streams - therefore increasing the value of the property.

Submetering is a method of tracking tenant electricity usage by facility owners. In a large, multi-tenant facility there is generally only one meter to track all of the site’s electricity usage. With sub-metering, additional meters are installed to track the tenant’s use of energy. Submetering allows the facility owner to track each individual tenant’s energy usage, and may be used to encourage tenants to be more effective and efficient with their energy usage.

Redistribution systems are utilized, along side submetering systems in multi-tenant facilities to create additional revenue streams for the facility owner. In deregulated electricity markets, owners of large facilities may act as wholesalers of electricity to their tenants. By aggregating the tenants of their facility, the owner purchases electricity at a volume discount price. The facility owner then charges their tenants the typical retail electricity rate. The facility owner leverages its tenants, and redistributes energy, to generate a new revenue stream. To offer these redistribution services, the facility owner is required to purchase the electricity and operate the distribution inside that facility.

EnergyConnect works with multiple manufacturers of metering equipment, submetering systems and redistribution systems to deliver the best solution for each facilities’ needs.
